West Midlands brewery to serve up debut bar in Barnt Green

L-R: Gary Meads and Al Smith

Birmingham-based microbrewery, Gypsy Brew has announced it will be opening the doors to its first ever bar to help unleash the potential of Birmingham’s best and boldest beer.

Having co-founded Gypsy Brew during the March 2020 lockdown, owners Gary Meads and Al Smith are now raising the bar with the launch of The Garrity, which is located in the heart of Barnt Green village.

The 874 sq. ft. space is currently undergoing an extensive refurbishment to transform it into an ambient, lively venue. Customers will be able to enjoy a curated range of stand-out beers and cider brewed by beer cicerone and Head Brewer Rob Walker. The intimate space will boast more than 40 covers – with indoor and outdoor seating available – and is set to create 8 new jobs within the local area.

Partnering with Midlands based businesses such as 200 Degrees – as well as Brighton-based Bird & Blend – to bring to life its food menu, the brand new bar will have a variety of artisan snacks, light bites and small plates available to suit every occasion alongside its extensive drinks offering of draught beers, cocktails and spirits.

Commenting on the brands new venture, Gary Meads, Co-Founder of Gypsy Brew, says: “We are delighted to be launching our first ever bar, The Garrity. To think that we founded Gypsy Brew and began working on our first beer nearly two years ago during the first lockdown versus now launching our first permanent venue is a huge achievement for the team.

Crafting the Gypsy Brew brand and developing our brews independently has certainly been a labour of love, but we’re confident that it’s been well worth the journey!”

Despite launching its first beer, Gypsy Water, just twelve months ago, Gypsy Brew has gone from strength to strength and generated significant buzz within the regional hospitality scene throughout 2021. With critically acclaimed stockists including About Craft, The Garrity marks the brand’s first permanent venue within the Midlands.

Speaking about the new launch and plans for the future, fellow Co-Founder, Al Smith added:  “We’re very excited about this next chapter for Gypsy Brew and can’t wait to welcome in our first punters to The Garrity.

“Gypsy Brew is exceptionally close to both mine and Gary’s heart’s as it combines both of our families’ multi-generational ties to both the Midlands and the hospitality scene. Looking ahead, we’re already considering other ways we can continue to diversify the Gypsy Brew brand and our offering within the Midlands, so watch this space!” added Al.

The Garrity will be open in Spring 2022, Tuesday to Saturday initially.
