A young nurse who worked in Madrid Hospital during the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic has secured his dream home for just €5 after winning a house raffle.
Aged 28, Sergio Carballal qualified as a Nurse several years ago and has worked hard to save the funds necessary for a house deposit. Living with his parents, Sergio believed he wouldn’t be able to purchase his own home for many years, particularly as his girlfriend was still studying.
Now the proud owner of a two-bedroom house worth €125,000 located in Vera Playa, Almeria, Southeast Spain, Sergio enjoys evenings and weekends on the beach, safe in the knowledge that his €5 raffle ticket has delivered financial independence and an incredible ROI.
Sergio confirmed: “In Spain, it is commonplace to not leave your family home until your mid-30s due to rising property prices, so I never dreamed of being a home-owner at aged 28 – let alone being able to effectively purchase my first home for just €45, having purchased 10 tickets.
“The whole experience has been life-changing, particularly after such a difficult 18 months or so following the outbreak of the COVID 19 pandemic and in working in overwhelmed hospitals.”
