Lack of engineering skills MP is told

Skills, skills, and skills – or the lack of them across the engineering sector in the region, was the message to MP Adrian Bailey from Black Country Chamber Platinum member, Lord Combustion Services yesterday morning.

The MP for West Bromwich West met Lord Combustion Managing Director, Stuart Smith, along with Chamber Chief Executive, Corin Crane and Lobbying & Representation Officer Dan Turner, to discuss everything from skills, recruitment, company growth and development, to late payments, apprenticeships, T Levels, training and Brexit.

Stuart said, “It was beneficial to meet and talk to Adrian this morning to discuss the issues faced by Lord Combustion and the engineering industry in general, particularly those related to the shortage of skilled labour. We were pleased to show Adrian around our offices following our recent heavy investment in our operations infrastructure and in-house training.”

Dan Turner from the Chamber said, “Engagement between our members and local Black Country MPs is essential. For MPs, it is more crucial than ever to understand and lobby on behalf of their local businesses. For our members, the chance to raise key business policy issues and outline recent growth is incredibly important. This morning we focused on skills and recruitment issues, touching on many other important factors such as late payments, Brexit and business growth.”
