A group of talented musicians are scaling up their commitment to bring the sound of music to a much wider audience by providing more guitar and ukulele lessons to the people in and around Shropshire.
The team at Guitar Practise, based in Wellington, are providing face-to-face and online lessons and are also keen to expand their offering to schools in a bid to bring the pleasure of playing an instrument to a whole new generation of music lovers.
The instructors already have vast experience in teaching all over the country in private and public schools and come from a background of live sessions in recording studios, touring and London West End musicals.
Instruments can be provided initially for lessons and there’s a special offer of the first lesson for £1 so people can gauge whether it is something they would like to pursue.
Adam Threlfall, 35, of Guitar Practise, has played in a number of West End successes including Flashdance, Mamma Mia, and Jersey Boys and said there was a growing demand for people wanting to take music lessons.
“I think lockdown encouraged more people to take up music, creating that desire to learn how to play, due to the time we have all had at home.
“We have seen an increase in demand for lessons since lockdown ended which is why we are keen to expand our tuition availability.
“It’s also the case that while core subjects in schools have been key over the last 18 months, many students will have missed out on the extra-curricular activities like music that they would normally have had access to.”
Mr Threlfall said families were enjoying learning together and relationships were being enhanced through the power of music.
“We provide one-to-one and group sessions, face-to-face and online lessons – we are extremely flexible and just want more people to experience the joy of music,” he said.
“Families can learn together if they wish and we are keen to extend our involvement with youngsters by going out into more schools and colleges. We have a small but exceptional team of musicians who have a wealth of experience to pass on for the benefit of others.
“We are focussed on guitar, acoustic, electric and bass, and the ukulele and can provide instruments initially, a great opportunity for a student to discover if they enjoy it before going out and buying their own. It’s the same thinking behind the £1 first lesson offer – the chance to try it out without any obligation.”
“We would love to hear from anyone who would like to learn how to play guitar or ukulele aged from about five up to adult – about 90% of those we teach are children and 10% adults, with the majority of children aged between six and 12,” Adam said.
“But we really do cater for everyone, individually or in groups and would be really happy to talk to any schools who would like to take advantage of the highly professional expertise we have available.”
