Aston Law School welcomes new Dean

Jonathan Fortnam

Jonathan takes up the position following a distinguished legal career as a partner at international law firm, Pinsent Masons, where he worked for over 30 years.

During this time, he handled complex litigation and dispute resolution across a range of fields including professional indemnity, corporate and commercial disputes and international fraud cases that have taken him to the House of Lords, the Court of Appeal and the High Court. He also introduced award-winning innovation to the firm’s client relationships and led its renowned corporate responsibility programme.

Speaking of his appointment, Jonathan said: “I am delighted to be joining Aston Law School, having been attracted to the role by the strong reputation the university has for developing highly talented law graduates and its innovative and practical research. I am also excited to have the opportunity to build on my experiences in practice and business to the benefit of new generations of graduates who will add value to enterprise in the UK.

“Aston Law School sits within Aston Business School, providing a unique environment for students to develop commercial and management skills alongside their legal skills.”

Also commenting on the appointment, Professor George Feiger, Executive Dean of Aston Business School said: “Jonathan joins Aston Law School at a very exciting time, as we grow our unique offering which combines high quality legal and business education.

“Jonathan brings a wealth of experience from legal practice, as well as important insight on how to prepare the law professionals of the future. His appointment reinforces our commitment to providing opportunity to our students, and support for local businesses and the community that we serve.”
