Bare Cards was created with a simple but important mission: to reduce single-use paper waste in the greetings card industry. In a world where so much of what we buy is designed to be used once and discarded, we wanted to rethink what a greeting card could be.
By removing the need for envelopes and therefore eliminating plastic cellophane wrap, Bare Cards offers a more sustainable alternative from the start. But we are not stopping there. We are taking the concept one step further by designing cards that are intended to be repurposed as art — framed, hung on the wall, and kept as lasting keepsakes.
It is often said that more than half of people keep the cards they receive from loved ones. The trouble is, these cards are usually tucked away in a drawer or stored in a box at the back of a cupboard, where they are rarely seen again. That means the love, thought and sentiment behind them is hidden from view. Bare Cards changes that. Our cards are designed to stay visible, so the message and the memory remain part of everyday life. Instead of being forgotten, they can be enjoyed continuously — on a wall at home, in an office, or in any space where they can keep bringing a smile.
For anyone unfamiliar with the concept, Bare Cards are self-sealing trifold cards. The card folds over and seals using a simple tear-off strip, making it easy to open and just as easy to send. There is no envelope needed, and no plastic wrap to throw away. The trifold format also opens a whole new creative space for design. It is perfect for panoramic artwork, flowing illustrations and stunning triptych-style compositions that would not work as effectively on a traditional single-panel card.
This creates exciting possibilities far beyond the collections Bare Cards currently offers. The format could be adapted for sporting cards, allowing a football fan, for example, to display a favourite team or player on their bedroom wall. It could also be used for children’s characters, storybook scenes, inspirational quotes, seasonal art, and many other collectible or display-worthy themes. The potential is vast because the format is not just about sending a message — it is about extending the life of the card and making it part of someone’s environment.
Our mission is still in its early chapters, but we believe it has the power to make a real difference. Bare Cards is innovative, simple and practical, which is exactly why it works. It solves a real problem: unnecessary paper waste, avoidable landfill and the throwaway nature of so many products in the greetings industry. Most importantly, it offers a better way to celebrate connection, memory and sentiment.
We are passionate about this idea because we believe cards should not only be received, but treasured. With Bare Cards, the emotion behind the card does not disappear after opening — it stays in sight, where it can continue to be appreciated every day.
