Renowned artist, Richard Rowan, will visit a Birmingham gallery this weekend to showcase his latest collection, Twilight.
Local art fans will have the opportunity to meet the artist at Castle Fine Art at the International Convention Centre (ICC) on Saturday 28th September from 1-3pm.
From the fiery horizons of Thailand to the proud roots of home-grown British landscapes, Rowan’s latest compositions on glass are often mistaken for photographs. They are fuelled by his passion for nature and travel and see him explore the crossover between light and dark, night and day.
To get into the mind-set and evoke a different mood for each painting, Rowan listened to a specific track whilst creating every piece, including music by Italian composer, Ludovico Enaudi, and songs from Hollywood films such as The Last Samurai and The Theory of Everything.
Rowan is known for his reverse technique, in which he paints backwards on the opposite side of a sheet of a glass, enabling him to achieve a much smoother gradient and colour spectrum than on canvas. The glass is then baked in a makeshift box where it dries out over two weeks, before he scratches out the paint to add detail.
Speaking ahead of his appearance in Birmingham, Richard Rowan said: “With twilight comes the promise of times ahead. It’s about waiting for the clouds to pass, the colours to form and the sun to rise or set.
“This collection hopes to emphasise the power of our planet and explore that feeling of our home being so small within the universe, our ceiling ever-changing.”
