Derby-born comic book artist, Liam Sharp, will meet fans at Derby’s Forbidden Planet shop on Saturday, November 8.
The local publisher, who now lives in LA, is famous for working on major comic titles for DC and Marvel including The Hulk, Spiderman and Batman.
Liam’s talent for art was spotted by his teachers in Derby, and at the age of 17, he secured his dream job in comics.
On Saturday, he will sign copies of his book, Spawn Dark Ages Issue I and Savage Sword of Conan Issue 11, at Forbidden Planet on St Peters Street in Derby from 2pm-4pm.
Liam has enjoyed a prolific career drawing comics and spent time working in Hollywood. For the film, Lost in Space, he painted cityscapes and early production designs and for the film, Small Soldiers, he designed Archer, who is the main hero toy.
Years back, Derby Museum celebrated Liam’s career with a 10-week retrospective from his work on ‘2000 AD’ to ‘Wonder Woman’ and he was awarded a Made in Derby walk of fame plaque which is outside the Standing Order pub in Derby’s Cathedral Quarter.
Gemma Pindard, Deputy Manager for the St Peters Quarter BID and the Cathedral Quarter BID, said: “We always get very excited when a local legend comes back to visit Derby and we know how many people will want to see Liam.
“We are really delighted to welcome him to Derby, and we hope he enjoys being back in the city where he grew up.”
Liam has been a pioneering publisher in the traditional and digital realms, supporting new and unknown creators over the years and still retains a strong connection to Derby and Derbyshire, which he has included in much of his work throughout his career.
In an interview with The Comics Journal, Liam talked about how much he still loves Derby and said the city is ‘in my bones.’
