A leading Hampshire animal hospital is ‘feline’ good after being honoured with a prestigious award for its high quality of care for cats.
Linnaeus-owned Anderson Moores Veterinary Specialists (AMVS) has been recognised as a gold level cat-friendly clinic (CFC) by the International Society of Feline Medicine.
Already a cat caring environment, the renowned animal hospital has implemented a range of additional measures to achieve the coveted status.
Key to gaining ISFM gold status is providing a high standard of care for cats, understanding the unique needs of feline patients, using the appropriate care equipment, promoting calm interactions and having cat advocates in place.
Nikki Hammond, lead imaging nurse and a cat advocate at AMVS, said: “I am delighted that we have become a gold accredited cat friendly practice.
“Our goal was to be able to provide the best possible care and experience for our feline patients. It’s a wonderful achievement for our team and something we are really excited to share with everyone.”
The ISFM launched the cat-friendly clinic initiative to encourage veterinary clinics to make changes to improve the welfare of cats in their care.
The programme advises practices on how to make their environment as welcoming as possible for cats, as well as providing support in team training, handling techniques and cat-specific client care.
Cat friendly measures at AMVS include separating cats and dogs with a visual barrier in the waiting room, ensuring cat carriers are raised up off the floor and have a cover placed over them, plus making sure hospitalisation facilities meet the relevant criteria for every cat.
Additionally, staff at AMVS receive ongoing education regarding cat friendly clinic criteria and that the animal hospital has a protocol for wellness checks which all staff implement.
