The League of Remembrance, a veterans’ and retired nurses support charity, has partnered with Level Best Enterprises to fund 20 three-month work placements for young adults with learning disabilities. This collaboration aims to provide valuable skills development opportunities and promote independence.
Level Best Enterprises provides a range of supported learning enterprises, including catering, gardening, arts and seasonal produce from its Colchester city centre café and art gallery. The organisation aims to build confidence and promote independence through skills training.
Major Rob Thomas, Secretary to The League of Remembrance, commented: “The League of Remembrance, founded in 1918, has a long history of supporting veterans, retired nurses, and their dependents through various initiatives, but we are now starting to extend our support to those living with disabilities, to deliver a wider social impact.
“Working with organisations like Level Best, we can support individuals in what can be life-changing opportunities and work closely with beneficiaries to create lasting change. Level Best is an incredible organisation and it is wonderful for us to be able to support their work.
“We have already sponsored and mentored two Level Best Trainees, one of whom has gone on to a full-time paid position as a lab assistant. Like all young people, the opportunity to discover new skills and a change in confidence and mindset can change the trajectory of their life.”
Level Best Enterprises Manager Alison Ling hopes that the sponsorship will create new opportunities for young people who may not otherwise be able to access the service.
Alison says, “We are always mindful that there are young people who may not be able to access training opportunities for financial reasons, and in these cases, even a small amount of sponsorship can be life changing.
