The UK Fresh Produce Network (UKFPN) marked a significant milestone last week with the successful hosting of its first All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) meeting in the Houses of Parliament. This landmark gathering brought together MPs, industry leaders, farmers, and trade officials to shine a spotlight on the challenges and opportunities within the UK’s fresh produce sector. Founded to unite stakeholders across the supply chain, the UKFPN formed with aims to provide a formal platform for dialogue, influence policy, and drive investment into British horticulture, food security, and rural innovation.
The inaugural meeting focused on key priorities such as labour shortages, sustainable farming, supply chain resilience, and opportunities for global trade and celebrate innovation within the sector
The session also highlighted the urgent need for policy frameworks that support productivity and innovation in the UK’s fresh produce industry.
Tammy Dawson-Doughty, Head of the UK Fresh Produce Network and APPG Secretariat, commented: “This first meeting of the UKFPN APPG is a landmark moment for everyone who cares about the future of fresh produce in this country. By bringing growers, distributors, and decision-makers to the same table, we are creating a unified voice for British Agrifood sectors . Our sector is vital to the UK economy, health, and food security, and it deserves a prominent place in national policy discussions.”
The APPG will meet quarterly, with upcoming sessions focused on workforce development, agricultural technology, and international trade opportunities. As part of its commitment to transparency and cross-sector collaboration, the UKFPN will publish regular reports and recommendations arising from APPG sessions.
