Two leading medical professionals join Wesleyan Members Advisory Board

 

Outgoing president of the British Medical Association (BMA) and a senior member of the Royal Society of Medicine have joined the Wesleyan Members Advisory Board.

Professor of General Practice and former President of the BMA, Prof Pali Hungin OBE, and consultant surgeon, Miss Rachel Hargest, have been appointed to the Advisory Board.

Established in 2005, the Wesleyan Members Advisory Board ensures the financial mutual’s professional customers are represented at the highest level. Wesleyan provides specialist financial services for doctors, dentists, teachers and lawyers.

A leading medical researcher, Prof Pali Hungin is also the Dean of Medicine at Durham University and was awarded an OBE for his services to medical research in 2000.

Miss Rachel Hargest runs a surgery practice at University Hospital of Wales and is a senior lecturer at Cardiff University. She is a Fellow of the Section of Surgery at the Royal Society of Medicine and won the Silver Scalpel Award for the best surgical trainer in the United Kingdom in 2017, awarded by the Association of Surgeons in Training.

Prof Pali Hungin, outgoing President of the BMA said:

“I’ve been a Wesleyan customer for a number of years and seen at first hand the support they give to customers when they really need it.

By joining the Members’ Advisory Board, I hope to use some of the experience I’ve built up over my professional career to help the Society stay relevant to its professional customers no matter what their future career paths may hold.”

Miss Rachel Hargest, consultant surgeon at University Hospital of Wales, said:

“I was attracted to Wesleyan because of its mutual status and strong values. Having spent some time learning more about the organisation I’m looking forward to representing members and customers and helping Wesleyan shape its services so they continue to meet our needs.”

Dr Craig Errington, Wesleyan Group Chief Executive and Chair of the Members Advisory Board said:

“Rachel and Pali are powerful additions to the Wesleyan Members Advisory Board and join highly experienced and talented professionals from the medical, dental, teaching and legal sectors.

“Their insight will be invaluable in ensuring we continue to provide suitable financial advice and services for our members and professional customers.

“The Members Advisory Board gives us a platform to ensure customers’ voices are heard at Board level, which is really important to us as a mutual organisation.”

Other members of the Advisory Board are Professor Dame Parveen Kumar, Professor Steve Field,  Shalin Mehra, Hew Mathewson, Martin Bircher, John Gillies, Judith Husband, Hamish Meldrum, Greg Lowson, James Badenoch, Michael Smyth, Laurie Watt, Lucy Scott-Moncrieff and Brian Cookson.
