Translation company Alpha CRC completes £7.25m acquisition of European business

  • Leading language service provider Alpha CRC continues growth journey with latest acquisition
  • £7.25m acquisition funding was provided by specialist lender Shawbrook Bank
  • The acquisition brings new clients, capabilities and scale to the enlarged group

Cambridge-based Alpha CRC, a leading translation business, is set to achieve significant international growth with its third acquisition since 2015.

Founded by Isabelle Weiss and trading since 1987, Alpha CRC provides a range of localization services to ensure their clients’ communications meet local language, cultural, political and legal requirements.  Combining human translation with the use of leading technology, Alpha now operates from 16 offices in 14 countries.

In a global industry valued at £46bn, Alpha continues to differentiate by combining the knowledge and expertise of professional linguists with leading translation technology.

Peter Nash, CEO at Alpha, commented: “Finding the right funding partner was absolutely essential to us. Sarah and the team at Forward Corporate Finance introduced us to Shawbrook, with whom we developed a real synergy.  They understood our value proposition and what we were seeking to achieve with this acquisition.  The funding they’ve provided enabled the acquisition and will help us to continue to strengthen our position as a leader in the provision of language services.”

Alpha was introduced to Shawbrook by Forward Corporate Finance, a boutique advisory firm, working with businesses primarily in London and East Anglia.

Sarah Moores, Adviser at Forward Corporate Finance, said: “Shawbrook Bank were supportive from the off, really getting behind Alpha’s expansion plans. There were challenges along the way – not least due to different geographies, time zones, and complex legal processes. Everyone worked seamlessly together to get the deal done. Exciting times lie ahead for Alpha CRC.”

Oliver Sutton, Director at Shawbrook Bank said: “Alpha’s latest acquisition is exactly the type of project that we thrive on here at Shawbrook – supporting growing and ambitious UK SMEs with a point of difference in the services they offer.

“Alpha stood out to us as a fantastic business, not only for its industry, product and sector knowledge but for its cultural sensitivity and local insight too, which makes a big difference to the way translations are received across territories and is a significant value add for their global client base.”

Alpha CRC employs over 360 people and operates across a variety of sectors including Digital Experience & Technologies, Games, Automotive, Fintech & Finance and Healthcare.

Sutton adds: “We’re proud to have helped with this next chapter in Alpha’s journey and we look forward to seeing how this funding translates into future success!”
