Top marks for Joseph Chamberlain College with TES FE Awards shortlisting

The only sixth form college in the Midlands to receive an ‘Outstanding’ OFSTED status, Joseph Chamberlain College, has proved once more why it’s top of the class, after being shortlisted for a prestigious TES FE Awards. The only Midlands-based institution to be selected as a finalist for ‘Best Sixth Form College’, JCC will be representing the region on the national stage.

Recognised alongside the UK’s highest achieving colleges, JCC has made the grade for 2020, following its record 99.4% A-level pass rate: the highest in Birmingham and Solihull for six years running. The college will find out if it will be crowned the winner at the annual awards dinner in March; the calendar’s largest celebration specifically for Further Education establishments nationwide.

In addition to its astounding academic report, the college has also been acknowledged for its local partnerships. Showing true Birmingham spirit, JCC has teamed up with the likes of University of Birmingham and The Bishop Challoner Teaching School Alliance (BCTSA) to offer follow-on opportunities for its students; not to mention its remarkable efforts to upskilling its teaching team, contributing towards training and CPD programmes.

Speaking about the upcoming awards, Principal Tony Day said: “To be shortlisted for ‘Sixth Form College of the Year’ at the TES FE Awards is an incredible achievement for Joseph Chamberlain College and it wouldn’t be possible without the work that our staff and students have put in over the past year. This prestigious accolade will recognise the efforts that have led us to become one of the country’s most successful colleges, and as the Principal, I couldn’t be prouder.

“We’re really looking forward to the awards ceremony and have high hopes to bring the award home to Birmingham. We’re the youngest city in Europe and our students are testament to the tenacity, skill, and determination of that. We are excited to prove that the Midlands has the best that education has to offer, and hope we can do the city proud.”

Situated just 10 minutes from Birmingham city centre, Joseph Chamberlain Sixth Form College offers a wide range of A-level and BTEC courses for school leavers, as well as Adult Learning and Higher Education programmes.
