A Tim Hortons frenzy arrived in Birmingham today with 200 people queuing in the freezing cold to get a cup of Canada’s most loved coffee and that was even before the doors were opened!

Canada’s biggest coffee brand opened their first Midlands store today on New Street, on the corner with lower Temple Street.

Chief Commercial Officer Kevin Hydes cut the ribbon at 12noon and the public got to enjoy some of the Tim Hortons signature products like their famous Timbits and French Vanilla. A number of Canadians now living in Brum were some of the first through the door as well as some die-hard Timbits fans who queued draped in Canadian flags!

The first person in the queue was 20-year old Calum Hoskins who had been waiting outside since 8.30pm on Wednesday night.

Calum is from Edmonton, Alberta in Canada but moved to the UK 11 years ago. He is currently living in Stourbridge.

Calum said,  “I’m so excited to hear that Tim Hortons was finally coming to Birmingham.  It’s so great that a piece of Canada is here, it’s a taste of home for me!’

Keeping him company from 7am this morning was 18 year old Abhijeet Sidhu Toronto who is currently studying at Aston Uni.

Within two hours, 400 people had been served and got to experience a the true  Canadian welcome in the brand new restaurant.
