Sign up for funded skills bootcamps

New skills programmes for adults are being offered by the Spark Group in partnership with Staffordshire County Council.

Skills bootcamps, one focusing on digital skills, and a second on domestic retrofit and property maintenance, will run with June and October starts.

Dan Canavan, Managing Director of the Spark Group said there is still time to sign up for the June starts.

He added: “The bootcamps are funded via the county council in Staffordshire and are designed to open up new skills to people in the county.

“Each course is free to attend if you are either unemployed or self-employed. There’s a 10 percent charge for SMEs (small and medium enterprises) who want to put an employee through a skills bootcamp.”

“Anyone looking to attend either bootcamp will have to commit 10 days of their time, on one day a week.”

Skills Bootcamps are a Government initiative, delivered in Staffordshire by the county council through providers such as the Spark Group.

They are designed to quickly upskill people in areas of work which are considered to be a priority for employers. The digital skills bootcamps will include sessions on the use of apps, AI, and content creation for websites and social media.

The domestic retrofit and property maintenance is designed to introduce people to the skills needed to work in the growing low carbon construction sector.

Delegates will learn about energy efficiency, the need to retrofit homes for a low carbon future and will develop their property maintenance skills.

Dan added: “The Spark Group is perhaps best known for supporting young people, such as apprentices, and we’re keen to expand our offer to workers of all ages. Winning this contract gives us an opportunity to support local residents as they prepare for the future job market.

The Spark Group has offices and a workshop at Westmill Street, Hanley, from where the retrofit and property maintenance bootcamp will be held. The digital skills sessions will largely be held at Keele University.
