A Shropshire mobility specialist could move to a new town centre location if plans get the green light, bosses said today.
The owners of Shropshire Mobility Solutions, which is currently based in Welsh Frankton, have applied to Shropshire Council to change the former church, Cornerstone Baptist Church on Lower Brook Street, Oswestry, into a shop and workshop.
The church has been closed since September 2024.
Scott Marston, who launched the business six years ago, has also applied to demolish the current area at the back and extend the building to make way for further workshop space.
“We spotted this building and thought it would be perfect for our business. We desperately need more room due to the number of mobility scooter and wheelchair repairs and servicing we are currently doing and also need more showroom space.
“Our product range has massively increased over the last six years and there are so many more scooters, wheelchairs and products we want people to easily see, try out and discuss with our specialist team. Obviously room is imperative to continue offering the level of service that we always have done.
“Accessibility is obviously very important for our customers so this new site would give us plenty of parking, more showroom and office space and also give people a town centre location,” Scott said.
“The premises would need an internal fit out which would be exciting as we could make it our own and it would be specifically designed for our business. Apart from signage, the building would look the same from the outside.
“We have so many people who can’t get to our current showroom due to the location, so this new town centre site would allow people to travel by car or public transport and easily visit us.
“In the future we would need more staff and the Oswestry site would also make that easier and more attractive for future employees. Public transport and accessibility of the town centre location would be a bonus for people applying and they would not necessarily need to be able to drive.”
The current site of Shropshire Mobility Solutions makes them one of the biggest independently owned mobility retailers in the county.
If the planning application is successful, the couple hope to open the new site in the New Year.
