Record month for car charging company as sales of electric vehicles soar

Mr Electric Chargers

A Midlands-based car charger installation company has started 2019 with a record month as annual UK sales of electric vehicles reached their highest ever total over the last 12 months.

Recent figures revealed that 2018 was a record year for the sale of electric vehicles and this increased demand is being evidenced at the Mr Electric Car Charging Company, which has gone into overdrive in the last few months.

As Government-approved installers of electric vehicle charging points, the Tamworth-based business has started 2019 with a record month in the number and value of chargers fitted.

The Car Charging Company fitted its first electric vehicle charger in September 2017, but almost a year passed before the next order. In the meantime, the company’s team of electrical experts gained knowledge and qualifications in the sector and passed robust training and testing to become one of the first firms in the Midlands to achieve accreditation with the Government’s Office for Low Emission Vehicles.

The accreditation means the Car Charging Company can apply for Government grants on behalf of domestic and commercial customers to reduce the cost of installing charging points at homes, workplaces and destinations.

As approved installers, Mr Electric the Car Charging Company is also a chosen installer with many of the industry’s top manufacturers such as EO Charging, Rolec and My Energi.

Business has grown rapidly in the last six months, from a few enquiries a month to daily calls about the installation of electric vehicle chargers and a record amount of installs in January.

Record year for electric vehicle sales

This mirrors the current growing trend for electric vehicles across the UK.

Figures revealed by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders this month showed there were almost 60,000 plug-in models sold during 2018 – an increase of 27% from 2017 and the highest ever 12-month period.

Jeff Longley, of Mr Electric the Car Charging Company, said: “After we installed our first electric vehicle charger, we decided to move into this market by equipping ourselves with the skills and knowledge to secure Government accreditation.

“Since then we have also teamed up with some of the UK’s leading designers, manufacturers and suppliers of electric vehicle charging equipment who recommend us to install their products.

“This January we’ve already had a record month in terms of the value of devices installed and business continues to grow. We have many projects in the pipeline, like advising on and quoting to install 100 chargers for a major property company. The Government’s push towards zero emissions and the excellent grants available are encouraging more people and businesses to make the switch to electric vehicles. At the same time the infrastructure needed to support them also continues to improve.

“We’re only really at the very beginning of this and I think 2019 is going to be a great year for the electric vehicle industry,” Jeff added.
