Professional services comes out in support of Birmingham’s young talent

Six of the region’s most prominent professional services organisations have demonstrated their commitment to the city’s young talent by partnering with the Birmingham Young of the Year Awards (BYPY) 2018.

BPS Birmingham Future’s flagship event, BYPY 2018 officially launches on Thursday 8th February, with an open-invitation celebration evening taking place at The Canal House.

BNP Paribas Personal Finance is confirmed as this year’s headline sponsors for BYPY, following a successful year as sponsors of the Marketing & Communications category in 2017.

Lynda Brennan, Director of HR at BNP Paribas Personal Finance, said: “As a leading employer in the region with ambitious growth plans we’re delighted to support the prestigious BYPY awards to celebrate and recognise local talent. We’re committed to creating a great place to work and we continue to help bridge the gap between education and the workplace. BYPY is a great example of providing opportunities to build and retain young local talent in the region and we look forward to seeing a record level of great quality entries for the awards.”

More than half of this year’s sponsorship packages have already been agreed for the event, with Wesleyan being welcomed back for its second year sponsoring the finance category, Squire Patton Boggs returning for its fourth year sponsoring the Inspiring Leader category and HSBC Bank for its first year, sponsoring the HR category – perfectly timed with the opening of its new head office at 2 Arena Central. JDX Consulting has also been welcomed for its first year, sponsoring the technology category.

The launch event takes place at The Canal House between 6pm and 8pm and is open to all in the city’s professional services sector.

Officially opening this year’s nominations, the event will provide an opportunity for attendees to network with previous winners and finalists, this year’s sponsors, the BYPY committee and other potential nominees. It’s a great opportunity to find out more about the awards, to hear from past winners and learn more about BYPY, how to nominate and how being part of one of the Midlands most prestigious awards can support personal and professional development.

BYPY recognises and celebrates talented individuals aged 35 and under from Birmingham’s professional services sector within the six categories: finance, HR, training and recruitment, legal, marketing & communications, property & construction, and construction, with one candidate being named ‘Birmingham Young Professional of the Year’.

Chair of Birmingham Future, Victoria Ball, said: “I am truly thrilled to be launching BYPY 2018 with such a fantastic line up of sponsors already behind the event. BYPY is not only an extremely important event for Birmingham Future but is one of the highlights in the region’s business calendar as, each year, we are able to identify and celebrate the young talent that exists right across the sector. It’s great to see the business community supporting our quest to celebrate this talent.

“This year is set to be another amazing celebration of the region and the impressive talent we home here. I’d encourage anyone thinking about applying to go for it, and if you’ve a worthy colleague or friend too shy to put themselves forward – do it for them! It’s an incredible experience.”

Last year, Michael Parker, Associate Director at construction consultancy Gleeds, was named the overall winner of BYPY 2017.

The award for Inspiring Leader went to David Hardman MBE, CEO of Innovation Birmingham and the winner of the Aspiring Talent category was Sarah Fraser, Tax Consultant at Deloitte.

Aston Business School has reaffirmed its commitment to the awards again, with the overall winner receiving a fully-funded Executive MBA scholarship worth £20,100.
