A chance to socialise, have a drink of fizz and get fit – the first event of its kind is to happen this month to celebrate one year of PilatesCOREuk.
The business, run by former teacher Kim Karlsson, will celebrate its first anniversary with a ‘Knees Up’ in Aldgate, East London, on July 22.
The re-launch of the business, which only managed an online launch party last year amid Coronavirus restrictions, will see members and non-members take part in the kind of event Kim had been looking to attend for years.
She said: “I searched for Pilates workshops or day retreats that didn’t have pro-Pilates talks, meditation and vegan food.
“I wanted something I could bring my friends to, who weren’t necessarily Pilates heads – I didn’t want them to be intimidated or bored by heavy anatomy talk.
“I couldn’t find anything I liked, so I thought it would be the perfect way to celebrate one year of PilatesCOREuk and I am very excited to offer something a little different.
“Teaching Pilates on zoom, I can see people craving social interaction and online Christmas and birthday Pilates sessions have been popular and so much fun – now we’re bringing it to life at the first opportunity.
“If you enjoy Pilates, prosecco and party vibes, this will be right up your street.”
The event will take place at the East London eco-friendly venue x+why from 6.15pm to 9pm with studio based Pilates, music, a bar, a selfie area and a private garden.
Kim, from Upminster, launched her business when she was forced out of teaching due to back pain brought on by childbirth.
The 35-year-old has previously had back surgery but found Pilates to be the best cure for her pain. She wants to help others coping with chronic pain and has qualified as a specialist in orthopaedic and lower back conditions.
In the past year her clients have included a global tech giant which has offices in Amsterdam and Spain, helping their staff stay healthy while working from home.
She has also provided sessions for Emerson Park Football Club, Everyone Active and Caspa Productions Theatre Company.
Kim also offers online classes for Chair-based Pilates, Sculpt & Tone, Back Rehab and Classic Pilates as well as one-to-one sessions.
“I think when you tell people you are a qualified Pilates instructor, they just bracket you with yoga instructors and don’t realise how in-depth your knowledge of anatomy has to be,” she added.
“Many people you work with will have some sort of medical or mobility issue that Pilates helps them with.
“Given my own experience and how good Pilates was for me and my recovery – it seems like a no brainer and a great alternative to painkillers.
“For our event, we are also getting to have a bit of fun with it – while still showing people the huge benefits of Pilates.”
People can sign up for the Knees Up with an ‘All In’ ticket which includes a 45 minute Pilates class with free flowing prosecco in the studio or a mingle only ticket without the Pilates class but still plenty of fun.
Tickets range from £20 to £40 and can be bought online at http://pilatescoreuk.com/knees-up/.
