‘One last push’ needed as Birmingham makes final C4 shortlist

Greater Birmingham business leaders have urged “one last push” in the bid to host Channel 4 after the city was named among the final three contenders.

The broadcaster has reduced its shortlist of possible locations as it gets closer to selecting the home of the new national headquarters.

Birmingham, Manchester and Leeds have made it onto the final shortlist – and are also in the running to host one of two creative hubs.

Coventry, which was put forward as an option within the West Midlands bid, will no longer be considered.

A final decision is expected in October.

Paul Faulkner (pictured), Chief Executive of Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce, said: “This latest development puts the region another step closer to becoming the home of Channel 4 but one last push is required.

“At our Quarterly Business Report briefing last week, we heard Birmingham City University’s director of Innovation, Enterprise and Employability Joanna Birch give an impassioned talk on why Birmingham is a natural fit for Channel 4 because of the youth, diversity, vibrancy, momentum and positivity around the city.

“The Chamber, our members and the whole business community is very excited by this opportunity and we all look forward to playing a part during this crucial final stage to convince decision-makers that Birmingham would be the ideal place for C4’s national headquarters.”
