Nottingham charity’s 2020 ambitions boosted by Christmas cash donation

A cheque was handed over at a presentation yesterday to TOFS Chief Executive Diane Stephens

Law firm Bevan Brittan is donating £5,000 to TOFS, a Nottingham based charity supporting those born unable to swallow.

The donation is part of a £20,000 sum that Bevan Brittan is giving nationally to charities this Christmas in its four offices in Birmingham, Leeds, Bristol and London.

The £5,000 donation represents the equivalent cost of postage saved by sending eCards instead of physical Christmas cards.

Bevan Brittan teams in the Midlands have been raising funds throughout 2019 for TOFS, through events including an Easter egg hunt, a charity raffle, bake sales and dress-down days.

Nottingham-based Tracheo-Oesophageal Fistula Support (‘TOFS’) provides support throughout the country for those with the rare congenital conditions Tracheo-Oesophageal Fistula (‘TOF’) and Oesophageal Atresia (‘OA’).

Babies born with TOF or OA need to have intensive neo-natal care prior to corrective surgery, normally within days of birth.

Speaking about the impact of the donations, TOFS Chief Executive Diane Stephens said:

“We were absolutely delighted to get the news. Being a charity that supports relatively unknown conditions, we don’t receive any government funding, so £5,000 will make a big difference to those we support.

“The donation will be used to help fund an ambitious 2020 projects plan. This will focus on regional family information and support events, to meet our aim of reducing isolation for families, and helping TOF babies and children to have fun while developing a positive relationship with food.”

Adrian Dagnall, Head of the Birmingham Office at Bevan Brittan, said:

“At Bevan Brittan we want to support the communities we work in and I’m delighted to make this contribution to TOFS, a local charity that makes such a difference to the lives of those suffering from air and food pipe obstructions. There is a strong culture of fundraising and giving among our Midlands staff that not only supports TOFS, but several other very worthy charities.

“It is a great pleasure to be able to make this donation at Christmas – and to thank everyone involved for their considerable efforts. I hope this will go some way towards helping those that require care, advice or support.”
