“Committed” and “passionate” eye care professionals have been urged to put themselves forward to represent their peers on the BCLA council.
Future council members will play an integral role in deciding and delivering the strategic direction of the BCLA, whilst representing members’ wishes and help to ensure that all views across the association, profession and industry are represented in all activities.
All council members are expected to provide top level leadership for the organisation, promote and actively encourage membership of the BCLA, attend council meetings, CPD events and its highly regarded conferences.
BCLA chief executive Luke Stevens-Burt said: “A BCLA council member has a passion for contact lenses and anterior eye health. Council members are expected to know, understand and support our mission, goals, policies, programmes, services, strengths, and needs.
“The Council has ultimate responsibility for directing the affairs of the association, ensuring it is solvent, well-run and delivering the outcomes for which it has been set up.
“We look forward to receiving applications from eye care professionals who are committed to an exciting future for contact lenses.”
In order to the achieve this, key tasks include:
- Attendance at council meetings and participate in committee meetings and working groups
- Propose agenda items for council meetings
- To know, understand and support the Association’s mission, goals, policies, programmes, services, strengths, and needs
- From time to time you may be asked to represent the BCLA within the represented group, for example attending events and participating in relevant meetings
- Provide reports to council from represented groups/committees
- Promote and actively encourage membership of the BCLA
- Participation in BCLA events, for example providing support and assistance at BCLA conferences and BCLA webinars
- If appropriate, after some experience and appropriate training, to act as a mentor to new council members
Nominations are welcome from optometrists (including those that have newly qualified), contact lens opticians, ophthalmologists and those from industry and the technical area of the profession.
Nominations will close on 26 April 2024. Voting will take place electronically during May and new council members will be announced at the AGM due to take place in June.
