New owner puts community at the heart of Ruddington hotel

The Cottage Hotel

A popular hotel in Ruddington is under new ownership, thanks to a six-figure funding package from NatWest.

The Cottage Hotel, located in the village of Ruddington, has been acquired by employee of three years, Sue Martin, with the intention of refurbishing the hotel for guests as well as creating a community hub.

The hotel features 22 en-suite rooms, dining and conference spaces, and caters for weddings, corporate functions and community events. In addition to hosting events for Bloomin Dementia, a Nottinghamshire-based charity, the hotel plays host to the Golden Years lunch for over 60s and regular folk and blues nights.

Thanks to the success of such events, the business has recently employed three new members of staff, bringing to 25 the total number of staff.

Sue, Owner of The Cottage Hotel, said: “The hotel has been popular with locals and visitors for many years, but I knew there was more we could do to involve members of the community, particularly those prone to isolation in such a rural location. That’s why we’ve partnered with Bloomin Dementia and host events to bring people together and create a sense of community.

“We’re also refurbishing our bridal suite and event rooms ready for next year’s celebrations, whatever they may be, and we look forward to welcoming people to The Cottage Hotel in the future.”

Sophie Shepard, Relationship Manager at NatWest, said: “Sue and her team are working hard to make sure the hotel is a destination not only for visitors, but also local people. It’s sometimes the case that popular venues focus on the corporate side of things, but Sue is making sure that everyone feels welcome. We wish Sue and her business the best of luck for the future.”
