MBP appoints Alex Watts as Managing Director

Alex Watts

MBP, the relationship-driven sports marketing agency, are proud to announce that Alex Watts has been promoted to the role of Managing Director with immediate effect. The news follows the recent decision of Ian Childs to step away from the role to focus on his health.

Alex, who at only 30 years old, has been a valued member of the MBP team since he joined MBP in its early days, hugely contributing to the agency’s continued growth over the years.

Initially working as an intern in 2014, Alex then accepted the full-time position of Business Development and Sponsorship in 2016, once he successfully obtained his first-class honours degree from the University of Bath.  Alex’s hard work and enthusiasm for everything MBP saw him promoted to Operations Director in January 2020 and he was subsequently added to the Board of Directors in October 2021 to sit alongside Chairman Theo Paphitis, CEO Mark Blundell and then Managing Director, Ian Childs.

Alex has lived and breathed the company for the last nine years as MBP has driven forward from strength to strength, making him the natural choice of the MBP board to follow in Ian’s footsteps.

Alex’s work ethic and commitment to helping MBP be the best it can be is well known; playing a pivotal role across the company’s day-to-day operations – whether that be shaping MBP’s B2B partner programme, leading the agency’s sports marketing activities and partnerships or ensuring client delivery remains at the highest level.

CEO Mark Blundell said: “I am very proud to announce this next step for Alex at MBP.  He is a pivotal part of the company and has been key in our continued year-on-year growth and success.  Ian will very much continue as a support and mentor going forward but we know that Alex will thrive in the Managing Director position and will continue to give 110% at every opportunity.

“We have just celebrated our first 10 year anniversary and have plenty more plans on the horizon so myself, Alex and fellow members of the Board are excited for the next 10!”

Managing Director Alex Watts said: “I would like to think that all those who have known me at MBP over the years, will know just what the business, its people and its clients mean to me – this is what makes me very excited to accept the role of Managing Director and I thank all the Board for entrusting me with the role. I am proud of how the business continues to place relationships at the heart of its work and prioritise client delivery above all else – that will not change as we move into the next decade, with plenty of exciting growth plans lining up.

“On a personal level, I’d like to pay testament to Ian for his period as Managing Director. He has been a source of constant encouragement and support to me personally throughout my time here at MBP. I know that I have rather large shoes to fill, but I couldn’t be prouder following in his footsteps.”
