Major investment programme at Bedford factory boosts production and welfare

Stephen Scurfield, Supreme Concrete Factory Manager

Supreme Concrete, a business owned by Ibstock plc, is undertaking a programme of significant investment at the company’s Bedford factory.

The work, which started earlier this year and will continue into 2019, includes upgrades to legacy production machinery and the installation of new silos for the storage of raw materials, as well as significant improvements to on-site staff welfare facilities such as new washroom and changing facilities and a new canteen area.

The key objectives for the investment at the five-acre facility, which currently employees 33 people, are two-fold: firstly to improve the quality of the fencing products it manufacturers, and secondly to boost the wellbeing of those working there and contributing to a safer working environment.

Other projects included the creation of an additional stock area for Supreme’s expanding range of products and extending the concrete car park to improve dust emissions created by vehicle movement on the site.

Stephen Scurfield, Factory Manager at the Ampthill Road plant says the investment at the site is proof of the company’s commitment to its staff, their welfare and the growth of the business.

He commented: “There has never been a more positive and exciting time to be a part of Supreme Concrete. This investment gives us a much-needed boost right across the site – it makes us more efficient; and allows us to demonstrate an even greater commitment to creating a better place for people to work through greater employee engagement. In short, it gives us a really good foundation to build on for the future.”
