Whittington and Oswestry Young Farmers Club have raised £5794.90 for Lingen Davies Cancer Fund. The club, who has members ranging from 15-26 years old, chose the charity as one of their beneficiaries, along with Midlands Air Ambulance and Shropshire RABI. The charity celebrated its 40th Anniversary in June 2019 and raises money to support cancer services in Shropshire, Telford

Wrekin and Mid Wales. Around 3,000 people are diagnosed with cancer in their region every year, and all money raised for Lingen Davies goes into supporting people in their local community. The cancer charity are currently raising money to fund two Endobronchial Ultrasound Scopes – machines that help with the diagnosis of Lung Cancer, by reducing the need for invasive surgery and, making the process quicker and more comfortable for patients.

Throughout the year Whittington and Oswestry members organised and participated in a range of charitable activities – singing carols to their local community, entering the charity’s first colour run, organising a speciality gin festival, hosting a charity luncheon, and taking on the Oswestry Round Challenge…a 33 mile circular walk, which they completed in just over 14 hours!

As well as being a youth organisation, young farmers work hard to raise money for charity and give back to their local community. Members are always thinking of new, innovative ways to raise funds for causes close to their hearts.

Alice Roberts, Chairlady of Whittington and Oswestry YFC 2018/2019 commented “I really wanted to make my year all about charity, as well as putting on events that members could enjoy. We all get a huge amount out of being part of this organisation, and so we really like to give back to local charity. Lingen Davies has been a part of most of our lives, for one reason or another, so we couldn’t think of a better charity to raise money for.”

Lizzy Coleman, Events and Fundraising Officer at Lingen Davies Cancer Fund added “We can’t thank the club enough for their generous donation and continued support. It’s great to see young people supporting our organisation and helping to secure cancer services for future generations. The support of people living and working in our local community helps to keep these excellent and vital services accessible to the people of Shropshire, Mid Wales and Telford & Wrekin.”
