Leicester stylist beats hundreds to take bronze in top UK hairdressing competition

A Leicester hair stylist has scooped one of the highest hairdressing accolades in the UK, winning the ‘Bronze Award’ in the ‘Color Vision’ category at the Wella Professionals TrendVision Awards UK & Ireland Final 2019.

Joanne Roe, a Senior Stylist at KH Hair in Bowling Green Street, competed against hundreds of hairdressers in one of the world’s most prestigious annual hairdressing competitions. After impressing the judges at the regional heats earlier this year, Joanne secured her position at the UK and Ireland final which was held at the famed Roundhouse in Camden, London on Monday 30 September.  Hosted by TV’s Vernon Kay and hairdressing legend Patrick Cameron, the evening included a glitzy drinks reception, an exquisite formal dinner and a number of incredible hair shows.

Joanne, who is also a member of the KH Hair Colour Team and has a coveted place on the Fellowship for British Hairdressing’s Colour Project Team, competed against some of the country’s most talented hairdressers to take home the award, winning prizes including an exclusive mentoring experience with industry legends, a tailored education package and opportunities to grow her profile throughout the year.

“I feel like my hard work has really paid off.” she said. “I have put my heart and soul into this competition and to come third in the country is truly amazing. The experience was inspiring and to be surrounded by so much talent was incredible. 2019 has definitely been the best year of my career so far.  I love learning new techniques and I’m really excited for the rest of this amazing year.”

Darren Messias, Joint Managing Director of the KH Hair Group, was at the Roundhouse for support on the night. He said: “We are so proud and delighted for Joanne as she has worked very hard for this fantastic achievement. She is an extremely talented colourist and a vital member of our KH Colour Team and it just proves that passion and determination really does pay off.”

Wella’s TrendVision is a competition designed to find the very best hairdressing talent in the UK and KH Hair was well represented on the night with Elizabeth Williams from the Hinckley salon and Ben Sutcliffe from KH Hair Barber in Long Eaton also among this year’s finalists.

Allison Hargreaves, National Education Operations and Events Manager UK and Ireland, Coty Professional Beauty, said: “The Wella Professionals TrendVision Awards is one of the most respected hair competitions in the world. Our winners should be incredibly proud of themselves because there are many stages to get through and it’s a tough process. It is a huge achievement to be recognised at this level and I wish Joanne and all the winners every success.”
