An inspirational female security specialist has been recognised as the ‘best of the best’ after successfully intervening in two high-profile incidents.
Laura Walsh, who works for MAN Commercial Protection, beat off tens of competitors to be named as the North West’s Female Security Officer of the Year at the British Security Awards 2026 for the massive difference she has made working at the Parrs Wood Entertainment Centre in East Didsbury.
Manchester-born, Laura was praised by judges for way she responded to a physical attack on a unit manager by a male individual, using proportionate and lawful force to subdue and detain the attacker.
She successfully maintained control until police arrived and made the arrest, preventing further injury, demonstrating outstanding judgement, bravery and professionalism.
There was a further incident where Laura provided calm reassurance to a distressed teenager experiencing a panic attack and possible finger injury after an attack, gathering witness information, coordinating police contact, and helping prevent escalation as hostile family members arrived.
“Our people are so important to the way we deliver security services and I’m delighted to see Laura recognised for her amazing service,” commented Iain McCallister, CEO of MAN Commercial Protection, who visited Laura on site to present her certificate from the British Security Industry Association.
“The security industry training she received gives her the skills to do the important intervention, but her attitude towards protecting others is what made her such a worthy winner.”
MAN Commercial Protection, which provides security for shopping centres, corporate businesses, logistics, manufacturing and high-profile sporting and music events, recruited Laura three years ago.
It has invested heavily in her progression, including CCTV, Fire Warden and ISOH Working Safely qualifications.
Beyond operational incidents, she plays an important role in contributing to the Parrs Wood Entertainment Centre achieving and sustaining a 100% compliance rate across Health & Safety and Environmental standards.
Laura has also shown initiative by expressing interest in supporting the development of the roof garden project and engaging with neighbouring schools, demonstrating a strong sense of ownership, pride and community focus.

“To win the North West award is amazing and I still can’t believe it if I’m being honest. The accolade is not just for me, but for the team that I currently work with and how we continually try to help people who visit the centre and make it a positive experience for everyone.”
Laura will now go forward and compete for the national title at the British Security Industry Awards, which will be held at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London in June.
