KEMP Hospice plans golden ‘Light up a Life’ celebrations

Light up a Life Tree

Wyre Forest charity KEMP Hospice continues its golden anniversary year of celebrations with its annual festive campaign called Light up a Life and is calling on local businesses to help.

KEMP, the Wyre Forest’s only day hospice and bereavement support charity, is marking fifty years since the charity was formed and over 25 years of running its Light up a Life campaign.

Light up a Life gives local people the chance to honour the memory of their loved ones who have died by making a donation to KEMP and writing messages of remembrance on special tags to be displayed on Light up a Life trees across the district and at a celebration service at Kidderminster Town Hall.

The service, which is free for everyone to attend, will take place on Saturday 7 December at 11am following a special 10.30am blessing of the Light up a Life tree located in the Swan Centre. The service will feature remembrance readings from members of the KEMP Hospice team, Christmas carols performed by Kidderminster Valentines choir, plus a Christmas Grotto for children following the service.

Light up a Life trees will be placed locally at KEMP Hospice, KEMP’s Bewdley shop and at Little Lakes Holiday Park. Any local businesses that would like to host Light up a Life tree tags and accept donations on behalf of the charity can get in touch with KEMP.

Head of Fundraising and Marketing at KEMP Hospice, Cathy Sloan said it was important for people to support one another over the festive period: “Christmas can be a difficult time for anyone who has lost a loved one. Light up a Life is a chance for people to celebrate the life of a loved one and support their local hospice. Light up a Life is for everyone, it’s not just for people who have used our services.

“This year KEMP celebrates its golden anniversary and Light up a Life has been a huge part of our history. For over 25 years we’ve been remembering those who can’t be with us at Christmas and this year we want everyone to get involved; to celebrate, to commemorate and to donate so that we can continue to help local families who need KEMP at their darkest time.”
