Hotel’s Easter treats are everyone’s cup of tea

A Leicestershire hotel, which has seen sales of its afternoon teas skyrocket, has announced plans to introduce special themed High Teas for 2019.

The Donington Manor Hotel, in the pretty East Midlands market town of Castle Donington, has already become a renowned destination for lovers of scones. But in the wake of an increase in uptake for its traditional tea service over the last two years, Events Manager, Katie Pearce, has decided to develop the ‘High Tea’ formula with an injection of child-friendly fun.

Katie said: “We run plenty of adult events like Champagne Breakfasts, Pamper Nights and Murder Mystery Evenings, but we also love to run more accessible events that enable the whole family to get involved.

“Having seen such amazing success for our Afternoon Teas over the last couple of years, it makes sense to build on that by introducing themes and attractions that enable children to enjoy what is generally seen as quite a grown-up treat.”

The hosting of family events is actually nothing new to the hotel. It already has a well-established Monster Bash Ball at Halloween and a child-friendly Festive Party on New Year’s Eve. But while the traditional afternoon tea has always been quite a cultured occasion, defined by manicured sandwiches and fine crockery, the Easter Bunny High Tea is designed to make everyone feel welcome.

Held from 3pm to 5pm on Easter Sunday in the hotel’s historic restaurant, it will involve a themed family meal, complete with Easter decorations, finger sandwiches and homemade cakes. And in response to public demand, there will also be a family package available, costing £29 for two adults and two children, which includes an Easter Egg for every child to take away.

Katie is clearly looking forward to the big day: “As you can see from the rabbit ears bobbing about on my head, when we host an event, we don’t just go through the motions!

“This will be the first in a series of specially themed High Teas, which will help bring the pleasures of our delicious tea service to a much broader family audience – and I’m really excited about where it could lead.”
