Lights will shine brightly on the Katharine House Hospice Christmas tree once again this year as part of the hospice’s annual Light up a Life celebration. The lights are kindly sponsored by Staffordshire-based marketing consultancy MMS who have supported the event for 18 years.
The 20ft tree forms the focal point of this annual event, which sees local people celebrating the life of someone special, as a light shines in their honour at Christmas.
Appeals Fundraiser, Amy Ratcliffe said: “Thanks to MMS, this year over 2,000 lights will shine on our Christmas tree which will be a poignant centrepiece for the remembrance of those people loved and missed. After all the upheaval of the pandemic one thing for sure is that we can still have this certainty and can remember our loved ones in this beautiful way”.
Supporters who have dedicated a light will receive a card bearing the name of their loved one whose name will also appear in the hospice’s Book of Lights. Last year, the traditional lights switch on service took place virtually, but this year the hospice is looking forward to welcoming supporters back in person with full covid precautions in place. The service is being filmed and will be available to view on the hospice website for those unable to attend.

With all that has happened over the last two years, this will be an extra special year being able to see the lights in person again. We really hope that the hospice has a record year in terms of donations, as every penny raised makes a significant difference to the lives of local people cared for by the hospice”.
Katharine House Hospice provides free care and support for adults and their families who are coping with progressive illness across Mid-Staffordshire. It relies upon the kindness of the local community to help generate over 75% of the funds needed to run its vital range of services.
