Hospice Santa Dash returns to city this Christmas

A hospice is gearing up to host its second festive Santa Dash fun-run along the river Severn in Worcester.

The St Richard’s Hospice Santa Dash takes place on Sunday, December 8 and will see crowds of runners take on the two-mile, family-friendly jog.

The event begins with a team warm-up at the starting point of Worcestershire County Cricket Club, in New Road, Worcester.

The route follows the river to Diglis, before returning to South Quay, where there will be festive refreshments.

Alison Parkes, Hospice Fundraiser, said: “We are so excited for our Santa Dash and can’t wait to kick-start the run up to Christmas in style!

“Last year’s event was brilliant and we loved seeing everyone dressed up in their jolly Santa suits and taking part.

“This year, we’re calling for each Santa to raise at least £40 in support of our care to patients, their families and bereaved people.

“So, whether you run, jog, walk or skip your way around the course – we hope you can join us and help raise funds for the hospice this Christmas.”

Each participant, except those under three, will get a free Santa suit to wear on the day.

Registration takes place at the Graeme Hick Pavilion, at the cricket club in New Road, Worcester, from 9am for a 10.30am start.

The Worcester Lions Club will be at the event with its Santa Sleigh, cheering on runners as they cross the finish line.

Adult tickets cost £15 – while tickets for children aged three to 16 are £10.

St Richard’s Hospice cares for adults with a serious progressive illness, improving their quality of life from diagnosis, during treatment and to their last days. It also supports their loved ones.

Each year the hospice team supports more than 3,400 patients, family members and bereaved people in Worcestershire.

St Richard’s is an independent charity and relies on donations and gifts in Wills for the majority of its income with 22% funded by the NHS.

The hospice is also raising funds for the Build 2020 Appeal and is part way through developing a bigger hospice, enabling more patients and families to be cared for in Worcestershire. The total cost for expanding and redeveloping the existing building in Wildwood Drive, Worcester, is £5.3m.
