Harbury Local Market, set up 3+ years ago with the intention to raise money for local groups and charities and so far over £19k has been raised.
The market started on my drive with a few producers most of which are still with us today and due to licence restrictions, moved to the Shakespeare Pub, our home for well nearly two years.
With a great team of supporters including Jane and Steve Ekins and Mandy Savage as well as local support from those who visited us, we outgrew the pub and a regular market of 20-25 stalls every last Saturday of every month that has been at Harbury School until Covid prevented us from running these markets.
We have a solid meat/food section now and looking to include a cheese and veg section soon. We continue to look for new and exciting local producers to come along – we might have a local goat meat company!!
All monies raised from this market go to local groups and we split the monies raised now so that two/three groups can benefit (tea/coffee – raffle – table charge) depending on who can attend. Otherwise all monies can go to one charity.
We ensure that any Producers are within a 15 mile radius and have a local connection as far as we can.
We contacted Harbury Parish Council to ask for assistance with running the market monthly indoors and they said YES – we are so pleased and the next market is to be held tomorrow (Saturday 1st May 2021), 10am-12.30pm at Harbury Village Hall.
The Parish Chairperson, Tim Lockley, will be cutting the ribbon as we understand we will be one of the first events at the village hall following its recent extension.
