Europe’s biggest taxi app, mytaxi, yesterday announced its launch in Derby, and to celebrate, is offering 50% off all trips until the middle of March*. With the cab firm promising pick-ups in under 5 minutes, and licensed taxi hailing now available at the push of a button, Derby locals looking for a ride will find it easier and quicker than ever before.

Working with local licensed taxi drivers who know the city like the back of their hand, the launch will not only bring skilful cabbies, but also fast, reliable and safe travel. Passengers travelling in a mytaxi cab will be able to share journey details and ETAs within the app, through a range of platforms such as WhatsApp, meaning they can always keep others informed of their movements whilst on the go. If that’s not enough to tempt a booking, mytaxi doesn’t include a surcharge, so busy travellers won’t get stung during rush hour.

Supporting and promoting local licensed taxi drivers is fundamental to mytaxi as the business seeks a central role in Derby’s transport system. While the launch will not only provide faster and more efficient travel to users throughout the city, it will also enable better connections further afield – with the app already live in Nottingham.

David Savage, UK General Manager at mytaxi comments: “Our expansion to Derby is really exciting for mytaxi. We have already seen huge successes in other cities and hope to replicate this here. Derby is a bustling British city rich in history and offers an array of sporting and entertainment attractions. We’re excited to work with the local cabbies and hope our launch will allow more choice and ease of travel for locals looking to get around.”

Richard Antcliff, Director of Public Protection and Streetpride at Derby City Council adds: “I’m pleased to see mytaxi coming to Derby; it’s great news not only for drivers, but for customers too; journeys are recorded, making it safer for both driver and passenger; there’s no need to hop out at a petrol station to grab cash, as you can pay through the app; and you’re guaranteed a smoother booking process, where rather than hoping that a hackney drives by, you can hail a cab to your exact location.

“For drivers using mytaxi in other cities, there has been an increase in the amount of business they’re getting, and at a time where drivers are telling us that business is tough, we want to see an increase for Derby’s drivers too.

“We’ve got big plans for the city’s taxi and private hire vehicles, and the launch of mytaxi is a great start, moving with the times and finding new ways to generate business.”

The launch of mytaxi in Derby marks the firm’s first regional launch in 2019, with the app already operating in seven other UK cities including London. mytaxi officially launches in Derby on the 4th March and is a free app available for iOS and Android.
