National Fostering Group is shining a light on the joyful and personal rewards of fostering, as part of its ongoing mission to support children in need and celebrate the carers who open their homes and hearts.
Recent data from National Fostering Group shows that 78% of foster carers find fostering rewarding, with 68% noting a positive impact on their overall lives. Two thirds (66%) say it has helped them develop new skills, and 63% feel it has given them greater meaning and purpose in life.
One such carer is Wendy, 56, who has been fostering with her husband Richard for over 11 years. After their own children had grown up, the couple felt called to provide a safe, loving space for children in need.
Wendy shares. “ “I’d encourage anyone who’s thinking about it to give it a go. I was 45 when I started, I’m 56 now. Fostering offered me a challenging and rewarding career with lots of training and support. If you’ve got a loving heart and a spare room, you can foster and I’d encourage anyone who’s thinking about it to give it a go.”
A spokesperson from National Fostering Group added that “anyone who has room in their home and their heart could be a foster carer, and most of our foster carers say that fostering is the best thing they have ever done.”
