Organisers of Worcester Music Festival have announced the first 50 artists that will be playing at this year’s event in the heart of Worcester’s city centre from 13th -15th September.
The festival has been running since 2008 and is organised entirely by volunteers who are looking to give back to their local community. So far, the event has raised tens of thousands of pounds for different causes and this year, the festival will be in aid of the Worcester Foodbank.
It’s an event that has seen thousands of acts from near and far flock to the city to perform original music in dozens of venues across the city centre. And, with music workshops for all ages as well as live performances in over 20 venues in Worcester city centre, there’s sure to be something for everyone over the weekend.
This year, the first band announcement brings a few old favourites back to the faithful city. 2019 will see the return of Evilwitch, a well-known Worcester band who last played together in 2012, an act that many locals will remember fondly. Also on the bill are The Whipjacks who bring along what is best described as ‘pirate punk’ with their driving rhythms and ‘partial nudity’. Alongside them will be a fair few familiar old faces, as well as some new and, in some cases, controversial ones.
Banned from Glastonbury for their satirical cry to ‘Kill a Tory’ the self-styled “2-bit Punk band” Killdren are appearing for their first ever Worcester gig. WMF organisers are keen to point out they do not advocate violence towards any person or political party, of course.
Spanning all genres, ages and cultures, the 12th Worcester Music Festival will be here soon, and as Nigel Clark from Dodgy says: “This is a great festival with an amazing number of artists giving up their time for free. It’s a chance to spend the weekend exploring a wide range of music, while taking in the many splendours of the city.”
