Firm expands Leicester office with three new Partners

Leading regional law firm, Howes Percival, has expanded its Leicester office with three senior hires from Spearing Waite LLP.  

Corporate lawyers, Jahid Ali and Oliver Brookshaw have joined the firm together with Banking and Finance specialist, Haydon Simmonds. The appointments mean that Howes Percival’s corporate team is now the largest in Leicestershire.  

The appointments enable Howes Percival to expand its rapidly growing corporate and commercial practice and offer a dedicated banking and finance services to banks, financial institutions, funds and other lenders.

Jahid Ali – Partner, Corporate

Jahid is experienced in all aspects of corporate transactions including acquisitions and disposals of companies and businesses.  He specialises in private equity transactions, advising private equity houses and management teams on buy-outs and buy-ins, and venture capital investments, including advising on funding of start-ups and early stage companies.  He was previously Partner and Head of Corporate at Spearing Waite. 

Oliver Brookshaw – Partner, Corporate   

Oliver deals with all aspects of mergers and acquisitions, MBOs, MBIs, listed and non-listed share issues and other corporate finance matters.  He also advises on venture and development capital and other investment funds.  Oliver is a specialist in the financial services regime relating to corporate finance and mergers and acquisition work.  He has acted for several listed and AIM companies, private equity providers, banks, UK subsidiaries and private clients.  Oliver was Chief Operating Officer at Spearing Waite and previously Partner and national Head of Corporate at Shoosmiths. 

Haydon Simmonds – Partner, Banking and Finance

Haydon is an experienced finance lawyer, he advises lenders and borrowers across a wide range of domestic and cross-border corporate banking and real estate finance transactions. In addition to general corporate banking matters, he is experienced in advising on bilateral and syndicated facilities, acquisitions and leverage finance transactions, solvent restructuring, real estate funding and development finance. He was previously a Partner and Head of Banking and Finance at Spearing Waite. 

Earlier this year Howes Percival, which has been celebrating 20 years in Leicester, reported a 14% increase in turnover, with profits up 37%, for the firm’s full financial year ending May 2018. 

In October 2018, The Legal 500 – the authoritative guide to the UK’s leading law firms – moved Howes Percival up to its top tier for Corporate and Commercial in the East Midlands, describing it as ‘a top-class regional practice’.
