One of the South West’s leading animal hospitals is set to plant more than 250 trees this winter to celebrate its continuing growth in business and help battle climate change.
Linnaeus-owned Cave Veterinary Specialists, near Wellington, Somerset, vowed to plant a tree for every practice which referred a case to them this year, and another tree for every ten referrals that same practice subsequently sent their way.
The volume of cases referred so far in 2022 means it has hit the milestone of 250 trees, which the national, not-for-profit online organisation eForests will donate to projects across the South West on Cave’s behalf.
Hospital Director Claire Lawrence said: “It’s been amazing to watch the numbers growing throughout this year and we’re on course to mark a highly successful 2022 by planting at least 250 trees by the end of the year.
“It’s a great way to combine marking our own growth in business with our continuing focus on fighting climate change, especially as this exciting new project leaves a real legacy that will last for years and years.
“Obviously the root of our business is firmly planted in offering the best treatment possible for sick and injured animals but we’re also delighted to be able to branch out to help care for the environment and the community in this way.
“We believe our clients will embrace it too, especially knowing that they are helping with long-term reforestation and climate control.”
Claire is hoping the budding relationship with eForests will continue to blossom, adding: “It’s a very user-friendly and efficient project. We donate money to them to buy the trees and they are then given free of charge to charities, trusts and landowners for projects they’re working on.
“There are some fabulous projects running all over the South West and the rest of the UK so we’re very proud to be involved.”
eForests was set up in 2006 to help combat climate change and create and restore woodlands across the country. It is run almost entirely by volunteers and all profits help fund the tree planting projects nationwide.
The tree-planting scheme partners with Cave’s continuing commitment to reducing its emissions and cutting costs and waste.
It has already achieved silver accreditation from the Investors in the Environment (iiE) initiative, a national accreditation scheme designed to help businesses reduce their impact on the environment.
