Derby IT company supports College Maths and English event

East midlands-based IT company RDS Global has been talking with students at Derby College, helping them to understand the importance of qualifications.

The Maths and English event took place last November, where local businesses were invited to talk with students currently studying for their exams, speaking about the value of education and why grades matter to future employers.

“Whether we like to admit it or not, it’s something all employers take into consideration when vetting potential candidates for a position in their company,” explains Managing Director, Phil Harvey. “Having the necessary qualifications can mean all the difference between landing a job and losing out to somebody else who is more qualified.

“Maths and English are especially important — both considered essential basic skills in the workplace — and not getting a passing grade in either one can leave pupils stuck in a cycle of resits and constant barriers to where they want to be. That’s why RDS Global wanted to come along and speak candidly with students, especially with so many young people today looking to forge a future career in IT industry.

“We’re huge believers in giving young people the right tools, training and knowledge for success in future employment. That’s just one of the many reasons our own apprenticeship academy was established with Derby College. Educating and engaging students about the overall importance in getting the right qualifications is a massive part of that.”
