Derby Cathedral Quarter BID announces trio of fun events coming to the city this summer

An exciting line up of summer events in Derby has been announced by the Cathedral Quarter Business Improvement District (BID).

Organisers have planned three fun and free days out for families to enjoy in June, July and August – giving you even more reasons to visit Derby this summer.

In June, the Cathedral Quarter BID invites you to Celebrate Sadler Gate with the return of its popular free, one-day street party. Live music, dance performances and unique street entertainment will take place on Saturday, June 29. The party celebrates the history of Sadler Gate and shines a spotlight on the city’s best independent businesses. Last year, hundreds of people attended the event, which runs all day and into the evening.

The next event takes place in July and sees dinosaurs rampage through Derby as part of a free, family fun day called ‘A Jurassic Day Out in Cathedral Quarter’.

Zeus the T-Rex, one of Europe’s largest dinosaurs, will join Tank the triceratops and Emily Bronty, the brontosaurus, in Derby’s Market Place on Saturday, July 20.  For one day only, they will turn the Cathedral Quarter into a prehistoric playground with additional activities this year including a ‘Dino Dig’ for budding paleontologists, Dinosaur themed crafting, and a trail using your smartphone which brings characters to life and allows selfies to be taken with them.

Finally, the Cathedral Quarter Business Improvement District (BID), invites families to roll up for the Derby Cathedral Quarter’s Street Circus in August.

The Cathedral Quarter Street Circus arrives via a big yellow bus in Derby’s Market Place on Saturday, August 10, and there will be a huge variety of street entertainment running throughout the entire day. Get ready to be dazzled, delighted, and transported into a world of wonder with street theatre, comedy acts and circus-style acrobatic entertainment from 11am.

Brad Worley, BID Manager for Cathedral Quarter, said: “It is our pleasure to bring these events to Derby this summer. The BID team works extremely hard to organise a brilliant programme of events and we really encourage everyone to put these dates in their diary.”

Eve Taylor, BID Project Executive for Cathedral Quarter, said: “We love these events because we know they help to put a smile on people’s faces while they are visiting the Cathedral Quarter. I am particularly proud about being able to bring the dinosaurs back to Derby as I know how many families loved seeing them last year.”
