As summer draws towards a close, children at Little Trinity Nursery in Kidderminster are enjoying the rewards of months of care and attention as they harvest a colourful selection of home-grown vegetables and flowers from the Nursery’s raised beds.
Little Trinity Nursery Manager, Miss Gaynor Carter, commented: “There is something truly magical about planting a tiny seed and watching it grow.
The children take great pride in looking after the garden and are always excited to discover what is ready to harvest.
“Harvest time is especially rewarding, with the children collecting carrots, courgettes and potatoes that they have helped nurture from the very beginning. Seeing their excitement as they pull vegetables from the ground makes all their efforts worthwhile.”
Little Trinity’s garden is a long-established year-round activity, providing children with hands-on opportunities to learn about nature, food growing and the changing seasons. The children are encouraged to explore their surroundings through touch, smell and taste, helping them develop a deeper understanding of the natural world.
Throughout the summer, the garden has produced an abundance of vegetables and flowers, including towering sunflowers that will provide seeds for birds during the winter months. From watering and weeding to harvesting produce, the children have played an active role in helping the garden flourish.
Gaynor added: “Gardening is one of our children’s favourite activities. They love being outdoors, getting their hands dirty and seeing the results of their hard work.
“Harvesting vegetables they have grown themselves gives them a real sense of achievement, and they enjoy tasting the produce at Nursery or taking it home to share with their families.
“As we reach the end of summer, it is wonderful for the children to see just how much can be achieved through patience, care and teamwork.”
