British Accountancy Awards declare Thorne Widgery as a winner for its innovative approach to accountancy

Staff at forward-thinking accountancy practice, Thorne Widgery, are celebrating after being selected as the winner of the Xero Small Practice Innovation of the Year Award at the prestigious British Accountancy Awards.

Presented to the firm in honour of their revolutionary X for Education (XfE) solution for schools and academies, the award was picked up by Director Dan Crowther and Xero and Academies Expert, Sam King, at a ceremony hosted in London at Grosvenor House within the A JW Marriott Hotel.

Organised by leading publication Accountancy Age, the awards are held each year to recognise the UK’s top firms, which have demonstrated excellence in their profession.

The XfE service to academies and multi-academy trusts (MATs) is a bespoke software solution that enables schools to take full advantage of the ease and convenience of the Xero cloud accountancy package, with the added benefit of being able to meet Education and Schools Funding Agency (EFSA) requirements – factors which the judges recognised in crowning Thorne Widgery as a winner.

Speaking after the awards, Dan Crowther said: “We are truly honoured to win the Small Practice Innovation Award for our XfE solution. This has been such a successful and innovative solution for our clients and we are glad that the judges have recognised this.

“To come out on top speaks volumes about the hard work we have put into this project and I would like to thank everyone at Thorne Widgery who has played a part in this success.”

Sam King, who helped to lead the team behind XfE, added: “Our entire team is so proud of what we have achieved with this unique solution. No other service on the market is able to replicate what we do, which is why we are already working with a number of schools and accountancy firms across the country to roll XfE out to new areas – this award can only help us more with this goal.”

The firm has won a number of awards previously, but few have been as prestigious as the British Accountancy Awards. The Hereford and Ludlow-based practice now hope that this latest achievement will help it to propel its services to a wider national audience.

Thorne Widgery will soon demonstrate its award-winning X for Education solution at The Academies Show in Birmingham, which is due to take place on 21 November 2018 at the NEC. Visitors will be able to learn more about XfE on stand H14.
