A North Nottinghamshire town has joined the likes of London, Manchester and Cardiff in becoming the latest place to go live with free Wi-Fi, thanks to an innovative initiative from the North Notts BID.

Tuxford now offers free connectivity for visitors to the centre of the town, allowing them to keep up to date with the latest offers and events without using their mobile data.

It is the fourth in the area to take up the initiative, which was prompted by a 2017 feasibility study which identified free Wi-Fi across town centres as a high priority for visitors, businesses, and the local community.

Since then, Retford, Worksop and Harworth have all had the service rolled out, with Tuxford becoming the latest to take advantage of the BID’s technology-led approach.

Sally Gillborn, Chief Executive of North Notts BID, said: “We are delighted to be able to roll out this service for the people and businesses of Tuxford. The town is a great destination for tourists thanks to its variety of independent shops and attractions such as Tuxford Windmill and Sally Mitchell Fine Art, so being able to offer free internet connectivity across the town centre will really enhance the experience of visitors and residents alike as well as supporting an increase in numbers.

“The project is just one of several we are working on alongside local businesses as we look to make improvements across the area to maintain its reputation as one of North Nottinghamshire’s hidden gems.”

The project was delivered by specialist provider Elephant Wi-Fi, which has worked alongside the BID throughout the scheme.
