There were smiles all round at the end of a marathon charity bike ride from Caernarfon to the Wirral, which has raised almost £26,000 for Ronald McDonald House Charities.
Dylan Morris, a divisional director of national property and construction consultancy Wakemans and head of the firm’s Caernarfon office, organised the event in memory of his infant son Tomos Wyn. Along with 43 friends and colleagues he cycled 80 miles from Caernarfon town square to Arrowe Park Hospital on the Wirral in just over five hours.
The funds will be shared between the Ronald McDonald Houses at Arrowe Park Hospital and Liverpool’s Alder Hey Hospital, which gave Dylan and his wife Sian invaluable support while their premature baby son was undergoing treatment.
Ronald McDonald House Charities is the UK’s leading provider of free accommodation at NHS hospitals, giving families a ‘home away from home’ while their child is receiving treatment.
Dylan said: “A huge thank you to everyone who supported us, especially my colleagues at Wakemans in Caernarfon, staff at our offices in Birmingham and Bristol and the 60+ businesses that provided shirt sponsorship.
“Heartfelt thanks also to Mark Blackwell of DU Construction who helped me organise the event and took charge of shirt sponsorship, which in itself generated almost £8,000.
“Staying in a Ronald McDonald House relieves parents of some of the financial strains that can occur while their child is receiving potentially prolonged and complex treatment and also promotes better communication with the medical team. I’m delighted that our fundraising efforts will help to meet the ongoing operational costs of these two important facilities.”
