A cat called Tinkerbell has recovered her sparkle once more after receiving expert care at a leading animal hospital in Surrey.
Tinkerbell’s owner, Charlie Cooke, was concerned when her precious pet of 14 years began vomiting immediately after meals and losing weight alarmingly.
Charlie took her to Cathcart and Winn in Hale Road, Farnham, where the Linnaeus-owned hospital’s Clinical Director Kate Oppenheimer dealt with the case.
Kate explained: “Tinkerbell had pains in her abdomen so we took a blood sample and performed an ultrasound scan.
“The blood sample revealed there were some inflammation markers affecting her liver and pancreas and, given her symptoms, a disease called triaditis – the inflammation of key organs – was suspected.
“The ultrasound scan assessed her liver, pancreas and gastrointestinal system and showed a few small gall stones present, as well as inflammation of her pancreas and intestines.
“A sample was taken from her liver and sent to the laboratory for analysis as some cases of triaditis are associated with cancer.
“We started Tinkerbell’s treatment for her triaditis while we waited for the results and in the last few weeks her clinical signs have improved significantly.
“Even better, her results from the lab came back negative and naturally her owner was delighted to find out there was no sign of cancer in the samples taken from her liver!
“We also happy that Tinkerbell continues to do well on medications and her diet changes, which are successfully helping to manage her condition.”
Owner Charlie, who lives in Farnham, said: “It was a very anxious time as I have had Tinkerbell since I fostered her at four weeks old from a local rescue centre.
“The most worrying symptom was to see her lose weight so quickly and the worse thing of all was the unknown, so Kate’s guidance and extensive knowledge was invaluable.
“I was given comprehensive information throughout so I felt comfortable agreeing the treatment plan with the vet and it was comforting that Tinkerbell was able to have multiple treatments done at the practice and didn’t have to go elsewhere.
“It meant less anaesthesia for her which was a much better scenario as she underwent her treatment.
“I would certainly recommend Cathcart to other pet owners. They were honest and caring and acted quickly for the benefit of Tinkerbell.”
