Bar Opus, the independent bar in Birmingham city centre, is paying homage to legendary Marvel comics writer Stan Lee, with a trio of superhero cocktails.

The specially created drinks will be available at the bar, in One Snowhill, until the end of November, complementing an art exhibition by Birmingham artist Kevin Lee, who takes his inspiration from Marvel comics, 1980s video games, manga and Star Wars.

Develop your own “spider-sense” with the Spiderman – a flavourful combination of white rum, grenadine and cranberry juice – or perfect your Hulk smash with the Hulk, which combines gin, mint liqueur, bitters and soda (no gamma rays included).

The bar has also produced the Captain America – a long drink comprising vodka, blue Curaçau, grenadine and lemonade – to honour one of Marvel’s best-loved superheroes, whom Lee revived with Jack Kirby when writing The Avengers.

Irene Allan, Director of Bar Opus said: “Stan Lee touched the lives of millions of people across the world, with his incredible  superhero creations. As our Kevin Lee exhibition is on now, and he is heavily influenced by Marvel Comics, among other pop culture references, we thought it would be good to honour the superheroes’ superhero.”

*Works by Kevin Lee, who is also a breakdancer and DJ, are on show at Bar Opus until November 23.
