Age UK Solihull celebrates volunteers

Glenda and Allan Lee receive certificates from Mayor for volunteering for Age UK Solihull for 10 years each

Local older people’s charity, Age UK Solihull, has celebrated the wonderful contribution of their volunteers with their Annual Volunteers Lunch.

The Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Stuart Davis, joined 80 volunteers at The Studio at The Core, and commented on how wonderful it was to hear about their dedication. CEO, Anne Hastings, thanked all the volunteers for their fantastic support.

The Mayor presented long service certificates, including to husband and wife team, Glenda and Allan Lee who have both volunteered for 10 years. Glenda is a befriender, visiting lonely older people, and Allan is a volunteer driver. Glenda said “We are privileged to be part of a team that cares for the community where we ourselves receive fulfilment and joy.”  Twelve people received certificates, including Rosemary Gray, Social Club Volunteer, for an impressive 20 years.

Volunteer Coordinator, Catherine Gulati, said “We have 300 volunteers in a range of roles and each one makes a real difference to people’s lives in Solihull. They reduce loneliness, help people with our gentle exercise classes, support with benefit claims, fundraise and welcome people at our Community Advice Hubs. We’re very grateful to all our volunteers and we’re always keen to hear from anyone who’d like to join us. There are growing numbers of older people who need our support.”

Guests enjoyed a raffle with prizes generously donated by local businesses, with a top prize of dinner for two at The Masons Arms, and also vouchers for Café Isabella, Encore Café and Paramo Lounge.
