ProVeg International brings GLP-1 Nutrition Guide to UK as weight-loss medicines reshape food choices

UK webinar will explore how nutrition guidance and the food sector can respond to smaller appetites and changing dietary needs.

As GLP-1 medicines change what people in Britain eat and buy, ProVeg International is bringing its GLP-1 Nutrition Guide to a UK audience, highlighting the need for nutrition support to keep pace with the growing use of weight-management treatments.

Research from PwC points to a shift in food choices among UK consumers taking GLP-1 medicines. Its Appetite for disruption: What GLP-1 means for consumer markets report found that 54% of current users reported increasing protein consumption and 51% increased their consumption of nutrient-dense foods, while around 70% reported spending less on snacks and confectionery. The findings underline the implications for healthcare professionals, food manufacturers and retailers alike.

But reduced appetite does not automatically mean better nutrition. ProVeg is calling for greater attention to diet quality as people adjust to eating less and for food businesses to consider nutritional needs beyond high-protein labels.

First published in June, ProVeg’s GLP-1 Nutrition Guide will be presented to a UK audience for the first time in a dedicated webinar, bringing its evidence-based nutrition recommendations into the UK’s growing conversation around GLP-1 medicines and food.

Hosted by MyNutriWeb, a leading UK-based CPD-accredited online education platform for healthcare professionals, and supported by ProVeg International, Bridging the GLP-1 Nutrition Guidance Gap: The Keystone to Patient Success takes place online tonight (Wednesday 14 October 2026), from 7 pm to 8 pm BST. The free session will explore how healthcare professionals can help patients meet their nutritional needs when medication reduces appetite and food intake.

Anna-Lena Klapp, Head of Research at ProVeg International, said: “GLP-1 medicines are changing the weight-management landscape in the UK, but reduced appetite does not automatically mean improved nutrition. As more people use these treatments, we need to ensure they have access to practical, evidence-based support that protects diet quality, muscle health and long-term wellbeing.

“This is not about prescribing one way of eating. It is about helping people make every mouthful count with enough protein, fibre and vital micronutrients, while recognising that a well-planned, plant-rich diet can offer useful tools for many patients.”

The guide provides practical, plant-forward nutrition recommendations for people using GLP-1 medicines. It addresses protein, fibre, hydration and key micronutrients, alongside support for muscle preservation, and is designed to complement clinical care rather than replace it.

For manufacturers and retailers, ProVeg argues that the emerging opportunity is about more than creating products with a GLP-1 badge. Its guide offers insights into the nutritional needs and product attributes businesses should consider, from protein diversification and fibre to micronutrient fortification and meal composition.

ProVeg is encouraging food manufacturers and retailers to look beyond protein alone when developing products for people using GLP-1 medicines. Nutrient-dense foods such as legumes, wholegrains and fortified plant proteins can help shape smaller, nutritionally balanced meals, with affordability and clear nutritional information also important considerations.

The webinar will bring together Soraya Pineda, a Weight Management Dietitian with over 14 years’ experience across the NHS, and Anna-Lena Klapp, a public health nutritionist and Head of Research at ProVeg International. Tanya Haffner, registered dietitian and CEO of MyNutriWeb, will chair the discussion.

The session will explore what the current evidence tells us about plant-based nutrition alongside GLP-1 therapies, including how a plant-forward approach can help patients meet their protein, fibre and micronutrient needs within a reduced “nutritional budget”. It will also cover practical dietary strategies for managing common gastrointestinal side effects, consider how GLP-1 medications can influence food preferences and what this means for nutrition advice, and introduce the new ProVeg GLP-1 Nutrition Guide – a practical, evidence-informed resource designed to support healthcare professionals in their patient consultations.

Healthcare professionals and others interested in the changing relationship between weight-management medicines, nutrition and food can register for free through MyNutriWeb. The guide is available to download through ProVeg International.
