One of the UK’s leading advanced materials and metals suppliers is targeting international expansion after opening a new expanded production facility in the US.
Goodfellow has invested more than £1.5m into the 15,000 sq foot precision engineering centre located in the heart of Maryland, Columbia.
Over 100 delegates from the local business community gathered for the ribbon cutting and official opening, including representatives from Howard County Chamber of Commerce, Howard County Economic Development Authority and Howard County Council.
They heard how the investment strengthens the company’s micro machining and advanced materials capability within the US, reducing lead times for customers and reinforcing its ability to support complex, high-volume programmes.
Up to 20 new jobs will be created as part of the expansion, taking the firm’s US workforce to 60.
“This expansion reflects our commitment to production in the US, as well as providing an advanced global hub for our micromachining business,” explained Simon Kenney, CEO of Goodfellow.
“As Artificial Intelligence (AI), aerospace, and medical technologies push the boundaries of what’s possible, we’re investing in the capacity and capability to be a true manufacturing partner to companies shaping the future of these industries.
“With this investment comes a real opportunity to expand our export business, which accounts for 80% of annual sales.”
Located in Huntingdon in the UK, Goodfellow is a global supplier of more than 170,000 different advanced metals, alloys, ceramics, polymers, compounds, and composites, serving thousands of customers worldwide across sectors including aerospace, medical, electronics, energy, and advanced technology.
The company provides materials, precision micro machining, and technical support to help customers move innovations from research and development into full-scale production.
As part of its US expansion, the site has been equipped with state-of-the-art laser systems, giving the company the ability to operate at ultra-fine tolerances and with complex micro scale components.
Goodfellow has already maximised this new capability by securing a $multi-million deal with one of the world’s leading manufacturers of AI processors.
